iTunes Match: An Apple approach to cloud music

Steve Jobs introduced iTunes Match as “one last thing” at Apple’s WWDC. I think iTunes Match means a lots to the music industry, It would lead the industry to a new era.

Lala.com was using a very creative model that lets users match their songs with Lala’s catalog and Lala allows users to stream those “Web Songs” for free, Apple acquired Lala.com in 2009, now Apple finally integrated Lala’s model with iTunes.

The industry has to be clear that music is becoming more and more like raw materials in digital era, users are willing to pay the services they like, not music itself. so the industry has to find a way to make money out of those services by using the raw materials. Unlikely Google Music and Amazon Cloud Player, Apple’s iCloud would like to share the revenue with the industry, the industry should be happy about it, so forget about the debates like “legalizing illegal music”, the industry would never remove the word “piracy” in digital era so why refuse it? I bet it’s the trend of the music in future, money is there, take it or leave it?

豆瓣的商业化

豆瓣自05年上线后在短短的5年间的发展速度及目前在中高端用户中的影响力在国内应该算是数一数二的。我想豆瓣之所有可以有今天这样的好口碑主要要归功于豆瓣对产品的关注及对网站商业化的慎重,豆瓣和国内众多目光短浅的同类网站相比商业化这块要慎重的多,从一开始的Amazon购买链接到现在的站内广告,歌曲试听链接,minisite购书单等等这些带有明显商业色彩的产品证明了豆瓣正在尝试将商业元素慢慢的渗透到网站中去,其中我认识minisite是做的比较失败的一个产品,一个品牌如果只有minisite而不配合广告投放宣传的话几乎不会有人关注这个minisite,这个产品失败的原因也许是在当初策划这个产品的时候只是单纯的从商业角度出发而忽视了更重要的如何能与豆瓣目前的产品或功能结合在一起。听说本月月底豆瓣将会有个类似或者取代ministe的产品上线,我们期待吧!
